Black Mirror fans, rejoice! Season 7 of the acclaimed sci-fi series is finally here, and it couldn’t have come at a better time. With the world in a state of chaos and uncertainty, Charlie Brooker and his team invite us to explore our biggest fears and uncertainties through the lens of technology and society.
In an exclusive interview with HuffPost UK, Charlie Brooker and producer Jessica Rhoades gave us a sneak peek into what we can expect from the highly anticipated season. And let us tell you, it’s going to be a wild ride.
First off, fans can look forward to some strong callbacks to previous seasons. As Charlie Brooker himself revealed, there is actually something to look out for in “every single episode” of season 7. And no, it’s not the sense of impending doom that we’ve come to expect from Black Mirror.
“We have got another episode, ‘Plaything’, which isn’t a sequel but we have got some characters from Bandersnatch,” Charlie shared. “We have got [characters] Moe Thakur and Colin Ritman, played by Asim Chaudhry and Will Poulter.”
But it’s not just familiar faces that we should keep an eye out for. According to Jessica Rhoades, there are also some “human Easter eggs” to look out for, including characters from the season 6 episode “Demon 79”. And as Charlie revealed, there is one prop that appears in every single episode of season 7.
“I won’t say what it is because then people can have the fun of finding them,” he teased.
So, for all you die-hard Black Mirror fans out there, this season is definitely one for you. And for those who may have missed some of the Easter eggs, Jessica Rhoades has a simple solution: “If you didn’t see it the first time, watch the episode again!”
Fans have already started speculating about what this mysterious prop could be. Some have guessed that it could be the locket featured in episode 2, while others think it could be the Bandersnatch book. We’ll just have to watch and find out.
But what makes Black Mirror so compelling and addictive? According to Charlie Brooker, it’s the show’s ability to tap into our deepest fears and anxieties about the world we live in.
“I think it’s the fact that it’s relatable,” he shared. “It’s not just about technology, it’s about the world we live in and the way we interact with each other. And I think that’s what makes it so powerful.”
And season 7 is no exception. In fact, the current state of the world has inspired some of the most intense and thought-provoking episodes yet.
“We’ve got an episode called ‘Lockdown’ which is about a couple who are stuck in their house during a pandemic,” Charlie revealed. “It’s about the pressures that come with being in a confined space with someone for a long period of time.”
But don’t worry, it’s not all doom and gloom. As Jessica Rhoades pointed out, there are also some lighter and more comedic episodes in the mix.
“We’ve got an episode called ‘The Virtual Assistant’ which is about a woman who becomes obsessed with her virtual assistant,” she shared. “It’s a bit of a comedy, but it also has a dark twist to it.”
So, whether you’re a long-time fan or new to the world of Black Mirror, season 7 is definitely one to watch. With its thought-provoking themes, gripping storylines, and clever Easter eggs, it’s sure to keep you on the edge of your seat.
And as Charlie Brooker himself said, “It’s a bit like a rollercoaster ride. You get on and you don’t know what’s going to happen, but you know it’s going to be a bit scary and a bit thrilling.”
So, buckle up and get ready for another mind-bending season of Black Mirror. And don’t forget to keep an eye out for those Easter eggs – you never know what you might find.
