David Tennant, the beloved actor known for his iconic role as the Tenth Doctor in Doctor Who, recently revealed that he had his sights set on a key Marvel role in an upcoming film. However, he unfortunately missed out on the part he wanted.
During a Q&A session at London’s ComicCon, David was asked by a fan if there were any superhero roles he had hoped to play. He responded by saying, “I think in terms of supervillains I got the best one with Kilgrave,” referring to his character in Netflix’s TV adaptation of Jessica Jones.
But then he admitted that he had his eye on a different role in the Marvel universe. “In terms of superheroes, I did slightly have my eye on Reed Richards,” he said, referring to the alter-ego of the Fantastic Four’s leader, Mister Fantastic.
Unfortunately, it seems that Marvel has gone in a different direction for their upcoming reboot of the Fantastic Four series. The role of Mister Fantastic will be played by Pedro Pascal, known for his roles in Game of Thrones and The Mandalorian.
For those unfamiliar with the Fantastic Four, they are a team of superheroes with unique powers who work together to protect the world from threats. Mister Fantastic, also known as Reed Richards, has the ability to stretch his body to incredible lengths and is the leader of the group.
Despite not landing the role he had hoped for, David is not bitter about it. He even expressed his excitement for Pedro Pascal taking on the role, saying, “If it has to be someone, I’m very happy for it to be Pedro Pascal.”
Pedro will make his debut as Mister Fantastic in The Fantastic Four: First Steps, which is set to be released next month. He will be joined by an all-star cast, including Vanessa Kirby as Invisible Woman, Joseph Quinn as Human Torch, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as The Thing.
But that’s not all – the Fantastic Four will also be making an appearance in the highly anticipated Avengers: Doomsday movie. This crossover event will bring together classic faces and newer additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe for the first time.
Fans are especially excited to see Robert Downey Jr. return to the franchise as Doctor Doom, a villain he previously played in the Iron Man movies. The movie will also feature familiar faces from the X-Men movies, such as Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romjin, and Patrick Stewart.
With such a star-studded cast, it’s no wonder that fans are eagerly anticipating the release of both The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Avengers: Doomsday.
In the meantime, David Tennant continues to delight audiences with his incredible performances in various projects. He has proven time and time again that he is a versatile and talented actor, and we have no doubt that he will continue to shine in whatever role he takes on next.
While we may have missed out on seeing David Tennant as Mister Fantastic, we can still look forward to seeing him in other exciting projects in the future. And who knows, maybe there will be another opportunity for him to join the Marvel universe in the future. Until then, we can all enjoy his fantastic performances and support him in all of his endeavors.
