Putin’s Spokesperson Tries To Gaslight The West Again With Latest Peace Claim

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov is once again spewing the classic falsehoods of the Russian government. In a press conference this morning, Peskov had the audacity to claim that Russia is still trying to achieve its goals in Ukraine through peaceful means, despite evidence to the contrary.

This statement is a blatant lie, as it was Russia who invaded Ukraine back in February 2022 in a brutal land grab. This aggression came just eight years after Russia illegally annexed the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea. Since then, Russia has continued its aggressive tactics in Ukraine, constantly pushing to expand its control over the sovereign land of this neighboring country.

According to the US, the ongoing conflict in Ukraine has resulted in more than 1.2 million deaths or injuries. And the UK’s Ministry of Defence estimates that Russia alone has endured at least a million casualties. These numbers are staggering and serve to highlight the brutality of Putin’s war.

However, despite this overwhelming evidence, Putin, a former KGB officer with a deep nostalgia for the Soviet Union, continues to act as if Ukraine is rightfully his. And Peskov, as the Kremlin’s spokesperson, plays his part by maintaining the facade that Russia is seeking a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

“We have repeatedly stated that our preference is to achieve our goals through peaceful political and diplomatic means,” Peskov said. But the reality on the ground tells a different story. Russia’s actions in Ukraine speak louder than any words and it is clear that they have no intention of seeking peace.

In fact, it is Putin’s refusal to back down and his insistence on claiming Ukraine as Russian territory that has led to the ongoing conflict. And despite being called out by world leaders, including Donald Trump, for his aggressive actions, Putin continues to deny responsibility and deflect blame.

Recently, Trump accused Putin of “throwing a lot of bullshit” around and even resumed the shipment of weapons to Ukraine. This move by the US was seen as a strong message to Putin that his actions will not be tolerated. However, Peskov remains in denial and continues to insist that peace talks between Russia and Ukraine are ongoing.

When asked by Reuters if the US’s actions had impacted the peace talks, Peskov responded with a resounding “No”. This is a clear indication that Russia is not willing to take any responsibility for the conflict and is unwilling to engage in meaningful discussions to end it.

The US did initiate peace talks earlier this year, but Putin has been continuously dragging his feet and adding new conditions which have ultimately delayed further discussions. Peskov, in his latest statement, suggested that Russia is waiting for Ukraine to confirm its willingness to engage in a third round of talks.

But this is just another delay tactic by Russia. It is evident that the Russian government has no intention of giving up its control over Ukraine and is using these talks as a way to buy time and further advance its agenda. Putin’s demands for Ukraine to drop its NATO ambitions and withdraw its troops from the four occupied territories only serve to solidify this fact.

The situation in Ukraine is grave, with innocent civilians paying the ultimate price for Putin’s aggression. And it is clear that the Russian government, with Peskov as its mouthpiece, continues to manipulate the truth and deflect blame in order to further its own interests.

It is time for the international community to stand together and hold Russia accountable for its actions in Ukraine. This conflict cannot be allowed to continue and innocent lives cannot be sacrificed for the sake of Putin’s nostalgic dreams of a Soviet empire.

In the words of former Russian Minister, Boris Nemtsov, who was found dead in his car after being sacked by Putin, “we must do everything to stop Putin’s aggression. Russia must stop waging war against Ukraine”. It is time for Putin to listen and for Peskov to stop spewing lies. The world is watching and the people of Ukraine deserve peace. Let us not allow their cries to fall on deaf ears.
