Jo Whiley Lifts The Lid On ‘Horrible’ Eminem And Dr Dre Interview

Jo Whiley, former Radio 1 host, recently opened up about one of her more “unpleasant” interview experiences at the 2019 Brit Awards. Whiley, who now co-hosts the podcast Dig It with Zoe Ball, was asked by a listener about the celebrity interview that left her the most “starstruck”. However, reminiscing about her past encounters with A-list celebrities also brought to mind one of her less enjoyable interviews.

“I remember interviewing Eminem and Dr. Dre once, and that was horrible,” Whiley admitted. “I interviewed Eminem when he was very young, and he was very shy and polite. He kept calling me ‘ma’am’ all the time, and he was really, really sweet and humble.”

But a couple of years later, when Eminem returned to the show with Dr. Dre, things were different. “The fame had happened, and he was just this other creature altogether,” Whiley recalled. “They made me feel so tiny and so stupid, and it was a really unpleasant experience. I did not enjoy that.”

Whiley’s experience with Eminem and Dr. Dre is not uncommon in the world of celebrity interviews. In fact, she is not the only British broadcaster to have opened up about their less positive past interviews. Earlier this year, Lorraine Kelly named two different musical divas when asked about her worst interview moments – for two very different reasons.

But it’s not just the hosts who have had difficult interviews. Denise Welch, who has been a panelist on Loose Women for decades, was recently asked about the “worst guest” she’s ever interviewed. Her response may surprise you.

“Probably Mia Farrow, who I adore, and I literally was gobsmacked to have her on,” Welch said. “But she just kind of didn’t get it. You know when someone is just monosyllabic? And so, it was a very difficult interview.”

Welch went on to explain that Farrow may have been having a bad day, but the experience was still a difficult one. “She was maybe having a bad day, but that just stands out as ‘kill me now, get me out of here please’,” Welch added.

It’s not uncommon for celebrities to have off days or to not be in the mood for interviews. But for hosts like Whiley and Welch, who have to navigate these situations live on air, it can be a challenging and sometimes unpleasant experience.

However, it’s important to remember that these are just a few isolated incidents in what is otherwise a thrilling and rewarding career for these broadcasters. They have had the opportunity to interview some of the biggest names in the industry and have created memorable and entertaining moments for their audiences.

In fact, Whiley and Ball’s podcast, Dig It, is a testament to the incredible interviews they have had over the years. Each episode features a different celebrity guest, and the hosts have a natural ability to make their guests feel comfortable and at ease. Their conversations are engaging, insightful, and often hilarious, making it a must-listen for fans of celebrity interviews.

Whiley’s experience with Eminem and Dr. Dre may have been unpleasant, but it’s important to remember that these are just two individuals out of the countless celebrities she has interviewed throughout her career. And for every difficult interview, there are countless others that have been enjoyable and memorable for both the host and the guest.

In the world of entertainment, there will always be highs and lows, but it’s how we handle them that truly matters. Whiley and Welch have shown grace and professionalism in navigating difficult interviews, and their resilience is a testament to their talent and dedication to their craft.

So, let’s not dwell on the negative moments, but instead celebrate the incredible interviews and moments that have been created by these talented broadcasters. And who knows, maybe one day we’ll see Eminem and Dr. Dre back on Whiley’s show, and this time, it will be a much more enjoyable experience for all involved.
