Cabinet Ministers Declare Support For Starmer As PM Fights For Survival

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has faced a challenging start to the new year, with his political survival being questioned by some within his own party. However, in a show of unity and support, Cabinet ministers have pledged their full backing for the Prime Minister.

The first cabinet meeting of the year, held at Downing Street on Tuesday, January 6th, saw Starmer make a statement to his political team. Despite facing pressure from Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar to resign over the Peter Mandelson scandal, which has engulfed No.10, the Prime Minister has received resounding support from his colleagues.

In a clearly co-ordinated operation, a succession of senior government ministers took to social media to express their support for Starmer and to make it clear that they do not want him to step down. This show of solidarity comes at a crucial time for the Labour Party, as they continue to rebuild and regain the trust of the British public.

The Peter Mandelson scandal, which involves the UK’s former ambassador to Washington facing a police investigation over allegations of passing market-sensitive information to convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein, has caused some within the party to call for Starmer’s resignation. However, the majority of Cabinet ministers have stood firm in their support for the Prime Minister, recognizing his leadership and the progress that has been made under his tenure.

Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar’s call for Starmer to quit has caused speculation that Cabinet ministers may resign in order to force the Prime Minister out. However, one after another, they have posted messages on social media reiterating their belief that Starmer should remain in his post.

Rachel Reeves, MP for Leeds West, took to Twitter to show her support for Starmer, stating that “Rebuilding Britain takes time. But thanks to the decisions we’ve made, NHS waiting lists are falling, inflation is falling, and interest rates are falling. The conditions for the economy to grow are there. With Keir as our Prime Minister, we are turning the country around.”

Other senior ministers, including David Lammy, Steve Reed, and Douglas Alexander, also voiced their support for Starmer and his leadership. They emphasized the progress that has been made under his leadership, such as falling waiting lists, rising wages, and new rights for renters and leaseholders.

The resounding support for Starmer also came from those who have previously been mentioned as potential replacements for him, such as former deputy PM Angela Rayner and armed forces minister Al Carns. They both expressed their belief that Starmer is the right person for the job and has the integrity, duty, and resilience to lead the country.

Labour deputy leader Lucy Powell and party chair Anna Turley, who were both sacked in the last cabinet reshuffle, also showed their support for the Prime Minister. Powell stated that she will be sitting alongside Starmer at the Parliamentary Labour Party (PLP) meeting with her full support, while Turley posted a photo of herself with the Prime Minister, signaling her support.

Despite the turmoil within the party and the challenges facing the country, Starmer remains focused on his mission to change Britain for the better. He has earned the right to deliver the change he promised and has the support of his colleagues to continue leading the country through these difficult times.

In his statement, Starmer emphasized that “Rebuilding Britain takes time, but we are on the right track. The British public gave us a mandate to serve them, and we must not let them down. Let’s stay the course and deliver the change this country voted for.”

As the Prime Minister prepares to lead the Labour delegation to the Munich Security Conference, his colleagues are rallying behind him and urging others to do the same. They recognize the importance of stability and unity within the party and the country, especially at a time when the world is facing significant challenges.

In conclusion, while there may be challenges and distractions, the majority of Cabinet ministers have made it clear that they fully support Keir Starmer as the Prime Minister. They believe in his leadership and his vision for a better Britain, and they are committed to working together to deliver the change that the country needs. As the battle for Britain in the years ahead continues, it is crucial that the Labour Party remains united and focused on delivering a richer, fairer, and stronger future for all.
