Exclusive: Greens Predict There’s Only 73 Votes Between Them And Reform Ahead Of By-Election

Green Party leader Zack Polanski has recently made a powerful statement as the party’s candidate for the Gorton and Denton by-election in Manchester, England. The announcement, made on Friday, January 30th, 2026, has sparked excitement and hope among Green Party supporters.

According to HuffPost UK, the Green Party has revealed that they are only 73 votes behind Reform in the run-up to the by-election. This revelation came after the party conducted over 13,000 doorstep conversations, as reported by an internal Green Party WhatsApp group.

The Green Party activists in the constituency are now confident that they are just 0.2% behind Reform, which translates to only 73 votes. They describe the race as being on a “literal knife edge”, with both parties neck and neck in the polls.

However, the Green Party is also facing a challenge in terms of manpower, as their WhatsApp group has warned of a shortage of campaigners for the final stretch of the campaign. The party believes that they need at least 300 people every weekday to campaign in the remaining week, with over 1,000 activists hitting the streets this weekend and 2,000 on polling day.

In a message to campaigners, the party has stated that they are “seriously short” of the required number of volunteers. This has raised concerns among supporters, but the party remains optimistic and determined to make a difference in the by-election.

A party source, when approached for comment on the shortage of campaigners, told HuffPost UK, “That’s campaigns, campaigning. We have hundreds of volunteers out every day, and we are expecting Saturday to be the largest action day the party has ever had.”

The source further added, “Our data shows that we are neck and neck with Reform, and every extra volunteer out on the streets from now till next Thursday could make the difference to stop Reform.”

The Gorton and Denton by-election, which is scheduled for next Thursday, will be a crucial test for the Greater Manchester seat. Historically, the seat has been held by Labour, making it a significant challenge for Keir Starmer’s leadership and approval among the electorate.

The Green Party and Reform UK have both seen a surge in popularity over the past 18 months and are hoping to increase their seat numbers in the Commons. Both parties have also asserted that they are now in a race with each other, while Labour has stated that it is a two-way contest between their party and Reform, with the right-wing group still holding a slight lead.

However, a Labour campaign source has dismissed the Green Party’s data, calling it “manipulated canvas results”. They further added, “This is a members’ motivation poll. It’s nonsense from our perspective.”

The insider also stated that the Green Party has a “loud vote, but it’s not widespread.” This statement has been countered by the UK Polling Report’s website, which is currently predicting a Labour victory in the by-election.

According to the website, Labour candidate Angeliki Stogia is expected to win with 35.47% of the vote, followed by Reform’s Matt Goodwin with 29.17%. The Greens’ Hannah Spencer is projected to come in third with 20.83% of the vote.

HuffPost UK has reached out to Reform UK for comment, but they have not responded yet.

The by-election has been gaining attention from all sides, with both Labour and the Greens engaging in a poster battle. The tensions have been high, and the stakes are even higher, making this by-election a crucial event for all parties involved.

Green Party leader Zack Polanski has been a strong and vocal advocate for environmental issues and social justice. His leadership has inspired many to join the Green Party and support their cause. The Green Party’s candidate for the by-election, Hannah Spencer, has also been making waves with her bold and progressive ideas. She has been actively engaging with the community and has received a positive response from the voters.

The Green Party’s message of hope and change has resonated with many, especially in light of the current political climate. With their strong stance on environmental issues and social justice, the Green Party is offering a refreshing alternative to traditional politics.
