Charli XCX’s First Brits Award Acceptance Speech Is So Brat

Charli XCX Poses for Photographers at the 2025 Brit Awards: A Night of Wins and Sarcasm

On Saturday, March 1, 2025, the 2025 Brit Awards took place in London, and one of the most talked-about moments of the night was when Charli XCX arrived on the red carpet. The singer, known for her hit songs “Boom Clap” and “Fancy,” posed for photographers upon her arrival, looking stunning in a bold and edgy outfit.

But it wasn’t just her fashion that caught everyone’s attention. Charli XCX had a lot to celebrate that night, as she took home the award for Song of the Year for her collaboration with Billie Eilish on “Guess.” This was just one of the many nominations she received, including Songwriter of the Year.

Despite her success and recognition, Charli XCX seemed to have a nonchalant attitude towards the awards. In fact, she even shared a sarcastic comment on her social media about her Songwriter of the Year win, saying, “yeah i wanna dance to me me me me me. when i go to the club club club club club club” – charli xcx, songwriter of the year xx.”

But her sarcasm didn’t stop there. In an interview before the event, she admitted that she wasn’t sure how to vote for the awards. And when she won Song of the Year, her acceptance speech, announced by Lenny Kravitz, was just as unconventional as her personality.

“Hi, thank you, yeah, this is cool, I’m really happy that a song about underwear now has a Brit Award,” she began her speech. “Very important stuff, I’m sure that says something about songwriting but I’m not sure what.”

But amidst all the sarcasm, Charli XCX took a moment to thank Billie Eilish for collaborating on the hit track just days before shooting its music video. She also made a sly comment about artists who pretend to be spontaneous, saying, “not all artists are [as] spontaneous” as they claim to be.

Comedian and host of the Brit Awards, Jack Whitehall, had joked about Charli XCX before the event, saying that she had asked not to perform so she could get drunk. And while her first speech may have been filled with sarcasm, her second speech, for winning Best Dance Act, was more heartfelt and sincere.

She addressed the negative perception of dance and electronic music, saying, “I feel like dance and electronic music gets a really bad rep,” as people think “it’s not that deep, is it.” But for Charli XCX, this genre of music is euphoric and allows her to feel on a deep level.

She also took the time to thank someone who played a significant role in her career, the late musical artist Sophie. Sophie had worked closely with Charli XCX before her sudden passing in 2021, and the singer made sure to honor her during her speech.

The night was a mix of wins and sarcasm for Charli XCX, but it was also a reminder of her unique and unapologetic personality. She may not fit the traditional mold of a pop star, but that’s what makes her stand out and resonate with her fans.

In an interview before the event, Charli XCX’s producer claimed that her next release would have an “anti-brat” approach. And her attitude at the Brit Awards was a perfect representation of that. She’s not afraid to speak her mind and be herself, even if it means being a little sarcastic.

As the night came to an end, Charli XCX left with two Brit Awards and a memorable presence on the red carpet and stage. Her unconventional and unapologetic attitude is what makes her a true artist, and we can’t wait to see what she has in store for us next. Congratulations, Charli XCX, on a well-deserved win and for staying true to yourself.
