MINEA is working towards augmenting the energy and water supply for the Cuanza Sul region

João Baptista Borges, Minister of Energy and Water Resources, commenced a tour of the southern region of the country, starting in Cuanza Sul province on December 11th. He was accompanied by notable figures, including Pedro Afonso, President of the PRODEL Board of Directors, Hélder Adão from ENDE, Elsa Ramos, the National Director of Waters, and other senior officials from MINEA and its affiliated companies. Throughout the visit, various projects overseen by the sector in that region were assessed.

The minister’s first priority was to inspect electrification projects in southern Calulo, aimed at providing electricity to Vila da Quibala. The project, initiated in January 2023, is currently 81% complete, with an expected completion date of August 2023. Additionally, the construction of a high-voltage substation connected to the National Grid, begun in 2023, was reviewed, with a projected completion date for the following year. This project, currently 75% complete and employing 150 individuals directly, will ultimately benefit 28 communities in the region.

Minister Baptista Borges evaluated the operational status of the Quibala Water Supply System, suggesting that it should be rehabilitated to promptly serve thirty thousand people. While en route to Huambo province, the minister observed progress in the implementation of the first Transformation Posts (TPs) that will provide electricity to the mentioned communities.

This statement was released by the Information Technology, Institutional Communication, and Press Office of the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources in Luanda on December 11th, 2023. João Baptista Borges João Baptista Borges
