I Stayed In A Hotel’s ‘Christmas Room’ With My Kids – And I’m Not Sure Who Had More Fun

It’s Christmaaaassssss! Well, it is in this hotel room, anyway…

Christmas is a magical time of year, filled with joy, love, and festive cheer. And what better way to experience this holiday spirit than by staying in a secret Christmas room at Chessington’s (World of Adventures) resort? As a self-proclaimed super fan of all things Christmas, I was beyond excited to be invited to stay in this special room. And let me tell you, it did not disappoint.

The park’s on-site hotel is already known for its variety of themed rooms, such as the Gruffalo, Oreo, and Jumanji-themed sleeping quarters. But tucked away on the third floor of the resort’s hotel is a hidden gem – the Christmas room. As soon as I heard about it, I knew I had to experience it for myself.

Arriving at Chessington’s hotel resort on a warm and sunny Sunday afternoon, my family and I were greeted with the usual summery vibes. But as soon as we opened the door to our room, we were transported into a winter wonderland. A big wreath adorned the front of the door, giving us a hint of what was to come. And as soon as we stepped inside, we were greeted with the sights and sounds of Christmas.

A huge garland decorated with bows and baubles hung in the room, and a beautifully decorated Christmas tree stood tall in the corner. The kids were ecstatic, running straight to the tree to admire the twinkling lights and shiny ornaments. The room was filled with festive touches, from Christmas crackers to hot chocolate sticks on the counter, and even stockings hanging on the bunk beds – topped with Christmas cushions and tartan fleece blankets.

Even the bathroom was not immune to the festive feels. A large wreath hung above the toilet, adding a touch of holiday cheer even to the most mundane of tasks. And the bath mat featured a cute reindeer design, making bath time a festive experience as well.

As we settled into the room, the familiar tune of Slade’s “Merry Xmas Everybody” filled the air. It was fun at first, but not so ideal at 8pm when our youngest was already in bed and I accidentally blasted the music into the room. Luckily, she didn’t wake up – thank goodness for white noise machines. But it just added to the overall festive atmosphere of the room.

When we weren’t in the room – trying to stop our youngest from dismantling the tree and our eldest from opening the display presents underneath – we were exploring the resort. And let me tell you, it has everything you could want when traveling with kids. From swimming facilities and restaurants to animal encounters and arcades, and of course, the theme park with all its exciting rides. I was pleasantly surprised to find that many of the rides were suitable for our young toddler as well.

But what made our overnight experience even more memorable were the festive-themed activities that centered around our stay. We were woken up at 8am by Santa’s elves, and later in the day, we got to feed the reindeer in a fun and interactive experience. Even our one-year-old was able to participate, making it a truly special family moment.

And the surprises didn’t end there. At one point, we left our stockings, empty upon arrival, in the room while we went to grab some dinner. When we returned, they were magically filled with chocolates, sweets, and even a tiger teddy. It was such a fun and unexpected surprise, and I’m not sure who had a better time – me or the kids. (Okay, it was definitely me.)

Now, I know what you’re thinking – how will this affect the kids’ concept of time and Christmas? I had the same worry before our visit. But I can happily report that it’s been almost a week since our stay, and we haven’t been asked once if it’s Christmas tomorrow. So, I can confidently say that booking into the festive room won’t mess up your year too much. Although, I can’t make any promises if your kids start asking for Christmas in May.

In conclusion, staying in the Christmas room at Chessington’s resort was a truly magical and unforgettable experience. It’s the perfect way to add some extra holiday cheer to your family vacation and create lasting memories. So, if you’re a fellow Christmas fanatic like me, I highly recommend booking
