Israel Declares ‘Tactical Pause’ In Parts Of Gaza As International Unease Over Hunger Grows

Palestinians Struggle to Receive Donated Food Amidst Humanitarian Crisis in Gaza

The situation in Gaza has reached a critical point as Palestinians continue to struggle to receive much-needed aid amidst a humanitarian crisis. The recent announcement by Israel to enforce a “tactical pause” in its military operation in three parts of Gaza has brought a glimmer of hope, but the reality on the ground remains dire.

On Saturday, July 26, 2025, Palestinians in Gaza City, northern Gaza Strip, gathered at a community kitchen in hopes of receiving donated food. However, due to the ongoing conflict and blockade, many were left empty-handed. The UN has reported that a quarter of the population in Gaza is facing famine-like conditions, and the situation is only getting worse.

In response to the global outcry over Gaza’s rising hunger levels, Israel declared on Saturday that it would allow airdrops of aid into the Palestinian territory. This move comes after months of complete blockade on all aid going into Gaza, with only a fraction of relief being allowed in late May. While this may seem like a step in the right direction, aid agency leaders have called it a “grotesque distraction” as it will never be enough to meet the volume and quality of aid required.

The Israeli military has insisted that its mission to flush out Hamas militants will continue, despite the “tactical pause” in certain areas. This has only added to the frustration and desperation of the Palestinian people, who are in dire need of basic necessities such as food and water.

The surprise announcement by Israel also comes at a time when French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that France will officially recognize the Palestinian state in the autumn. While this move has not been followed by other allies such as the UK and Germany, the three leaders did release a joint statement condemning the malnutrition seen in Gaza on Friday. They called for an end to the war and urged Israel to immediately lift restrictions on the flow of aid.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who has been vocal about the situation in Gaza, announced on Saturday that Britain would be evacuating critically ill children from the region. In an article for The Daily Mirror, he stated, “I know the British people are sickened by what is happening. The images of starvation and desperation in Gaza are utterly horrifying.” He also added, “We are urgently accelerating efforts to evacuate children from Gaza who need critical medical assistance – bringing more Palestinian children to the UK for specialist medical treatment.”

Starmer also called for Hamas to release the hostages still being held in Gaza and reiterated the need for a two-state solution to the conflict. The World Food Programme has also released a statement, highlighting the dire situation in Gaza. “Nearly one person in three is not eating for days. Malnutrition is surging, with 90,000 women and children in urgent need of treatment,” the statement read.

The situation in Gaza has also caught the attention of 100 NGOs, who have warned that Palestinians are “wasting away” from mass starvation and collapsing on the streets. The international community must come together to address this crisis and provide much-needed aid to the people of Gaza.

It is time for Israel to lift the blockade and allow for the free flow of aid into Gaza. The most basic needs of the civilian population, including access to food and water, must be met without any further delay. The world cannot turn a blind eye to the suffering of the Palestinian people any longer.

As we continue to witness the devastating effects of the conflict in Gaza, it is crucial for all parties involved to prioritize the well-being of the civilian population. The time has come to end the war and work towards a peaceful resolution. The international community must come together to support the people of Gaza and provide them with the aid they desperately need. Let us not forget that behind the statistics and numbers, there are real people, families, and children who are suffering. It is our responsibility to help them in any way we can.
