Dexter Henson, the son of renowned singer Charlotte Church and rugby star Gavin Henson, has made his acting debut in a short film for the BBC. The 16-year-old took on a leading role in the one-off special for It’s My Shout, titled Waiting For Burton, which aired on BBC 2 Cymru earlier this week.
In the short film, set in the 1970s, Dexter played an aspiring teenage actor who lands the coveted role of Hamlet in his school production of the Shakespeare play. He beats out a female classmate who has a growing obsession with Richard Burton, the famous Welsh actor, for the role.
Reflecting on his experience on the set of Waiting For Burton, Dexter shared with It’s My Shout, “It was really good, it was my first time working on a set, so everything was a bit new for me. But it was great! I was well looked after. It was really exciting, I really enjoyed myself.”
It is clear that Dexter has a natural talent for acting, despite it being his first time on a professional set. He also admitted that acting is a more recent passion for him, as he had previously been focused on following in his father’s footsteps with a career in sports.
“I was more into rugby since I was about five, but I sort of had enough of it, and I wanted to try something different,” he shared. “Rugby and acting are literally two completely different things, but I love it.”
Dexter’s mother, Charlotte Church, is a well-known singer and actress herself, and it seems that he has inherited some of her talents. Last month, Charlotte attended the BAFTA Cymru Awards in Newport, Wales, with Dexter as her guest. The mother-son duo looked stunning on the red carpet, with Dexter proving to be a natural in front of the cameras.
Just a few days later, Charlotte made her debut as a cast member on The Celebrity Traitors, a popular British game show. Despite being “murdered” by her fellow “Traitors” Jonathan Ross, Alan Carr, and Cat Burns, Charlotte made it past the halfway point in the series, showcasing her competitive spirit and sense of humor.
